When the design principles from textbooks step onto the roaring factory floor, and when classroom‑based market analyses confront real‑world industry trends, theory and practice converge, and creativity collides with manufacturing—sparking the flames of tomorrow’s design.
On December 22, a delegation of faculty and students from the Product Design Program of the School of Arts and Design at Sanming University visited Jiansheng Group, embarking on an immersive journey of knowledge exploration. The event aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice, deepen students’ understanding of their field, and foster a genuine integration of theory and hands-on experience through real-world engagement.
This internship is centered around three core areas—the furniture laboratory, the R&D center, and the office furniture showroom—providing a comprehensive understanding of the entire product lifecycle, from design ideation and R&D validation to real-world spatial implementation. Participants will gain firsthand insight into the integrated strengths of modern furniture companies in the convergence of design, technology, and manufacturing.
Enter School Furniture Laboratory ： Strengthening the foundation of product quality through standards and data.
At the Jiansheng Group Furniture Testing Laboratory, faculty and students conducted an up-close tour and gained insight into the array of critical testing procedures that furniture products undergo during research, development, and manufacturing. The laboratory conducts comprehensive evaluations of furniture, focusing on structural safety, stability performance, durability testing, as well as material environmental and safety compliance.
Drawing on specific product case studies, JianSheng’s technical team provided students with a detailed explanation of the structural, material, and process challenges that may arise during the implementation of design solutions, as well as strategies for continuously refining these designs through scientific testing and data analysis. Through this visit, students gained a profound understanding: truly mature product design is underpinned by a steadfast commitment to safety, reliability, and user experience—qualities that transcend mere aesthetic expression.
Visiting the R&D Center ： Let creativity take root and flourish in R&D.
At the Jiansheng Group’s R&D Center, faculty and students gained a comprehensive understanding of the company’s end-to-end processes in product design and technological development. From market‑demand analysis and concept formulation to structural engineering, material selection, prototype fabrication, and iterative validation, the R&D Center vividly demonstrated the entire evolution of a furniture product—from “creative idea” to “product prototype.”
The Jiansheng R&D team engaged in in-depth discussions and knowledge sharing with students, focusing on industry trends, functional innovation, and design implementation capabilities. This helped participants gain a clearer, more practical understanding of the logical framework and professional standards of product design in real-world business settings, while also broadening their perspectives and reflections on future career development.
Visit the office furniture showroom ： Design integrates with space; scenarios empower the experience.
In the office furniture showroom, faculty and students immersed themselves in a systematic spatial solution crafted by Jiansheng Group to accommodate diverse office typologies. The exhibition space encompasses a variety of settings—open-plan workspaces, private offices, meeting areas, and collaborative public zones—offering a comprehensive showcase of how furniture design integrates spatial efficiency, functional versatility, and human-centered experiences.
The JianSheng team’s presenters introduced the project from multiple perspectives—design philosophy, modular configuration, material and manufacturing processes, and spatial adaptation—enabling students to see firsthand how classroom design theories translate into tangible, perceptible product experiences in real-world office settings.
School-Enterprise Exchange ： Empowering Teaching Through Practice
Knowledge is the beginning of action, and action is the fulfillment of knowledge. This collaborative initiative between Jiansheng Group and universities has not only enabled students to step beyond the classroom and gain firsthand insight into the real pulse of industry development, but has also helped them refine their career paths through practical experience, planting the seeds of future growth in their hearts.
