On September 1, the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China) officially released the national standard “General Technical Requirements for Midday Rest Desks and Chairs for Primary and Secondary School Students” (GB/T 46016—2025), which will come into effect on February 1, 2026. This marks the first national standard in China specifically addressing midday rest desks and chairs for primary and secondary school students, filling a critical gap in this field.

For example, primary‑school desk heights range from 455 mm to 730 mm, while secondary‑school desks are between 565 mm and 790 mm; during rest periods, the chair back can recline to at least 135°, with an overall length of no less than 1,050 mm, and it must be equipped with a headrest and leg‑rest space of adequate size, truly enabling users to “sit upright and sleep comfortably.” At the same time, in terms of materials and durability, the standard sets higher requirements for impact resistance, aging resistance, load‑bearing capacity, and service life.
